Intern Insider 🎓️: Lucky? Naahh…Consistent Efforts

This time we have Ayush Gupta with us, an SRCC student whose journey is nothing short of remarkable. From a POR in major college societies to securing an impressive offer from FICCI, Ayush’s path has been defined by his passion for both campus life and professional growth.

1. What are a few things you wish you would have known before starting internships?

One thing that I have realized in my internships that you should not run after an internships just for the “brand name”, you should really understand the role they are offering you and whether you would be interested in continuing that role or not. If the role or work doesn’t interest you, you wouldn’t be able to give the 100% to your internship, moreover you might get frustrated since you will be wasting a lot of your time without adding any value to yourselves.

2. You were in talks with a recruiter for a really long period before finally converting the offer, so what would be your take on the patience and consistency someone needs while tapping internships? And what is the appropriate number of times you should try on a particular lead before giving up and what should be the frequency of follow up messages?

Being patient while tapping internships is very crucial since it is very unexpected in nature and might take long lead times before the actual final conversion. You must be consistent in your efforts, even though it might be a little demotivating during the process. I would say, you should ideally follow up on an opportunity three times before giving it up and the ideal number of lead time between the follow ups should be 2-3 days and for the last follow up it could be 2-3 weeks

3. How are you managing studies with the internships?

Studies is one thing that requires consistent effort and I have been someone following the same. I try to be regular in my classes and pay attention to whatever’s being taught. This reduces the pressure on me during the internals and examination period. Talking about internships, I try to take internships that are remote in nature, so that I can focus on studies in the first half of the day and on my internships during evening.
